Activating 1.0.2 (with iNdependence) was easy and clean. I use IPSF and I have no interest in installing apps on my iPhone. Since IPSF unlocks sim usage for all firmwares currently available permanently all I need is to upgrade to any firmware from 1.1.1 and up and then just trick the iPhone to activate itself, then I have a fully functioning iPhone, clean and no fuss.

Unfortunately all solutions I've seen so far have been activation + putting installer.app on your iPhone which cannot be removed again. I know that at least with 1.1.1 and the emergency call TIFF exploit it would be technically possible to perform just the activation alone, but jailbreakme.com and other sites like it install installer.app without asking as well.

So is there a way to simply activate and JUST activate a 1.1.1 or higher firmware iPhone? It would be very useful for people like me who just want to use the iPhone as it is but with their own sim via IPSF.

Thanks

i would love to know too but since apple has so many restrictions it looks like the only way is to jailbreak and use independence to do it

Yeah, I arrived at that conclusion myself to be honest. But I just wish there was cleaner way of doing it. iNdependence still has to install SSH and god knows what else to make its magic work.

Lets hope iNdependence will support upgrading to 1.1.3 soon, the current 1.1.3 upgrade just has way too many problems.
