Alright, I've done a bit of searching, and haven't seen anything super related to what I'm about to ask, so here goes.

There's a lady in my office with an iPhone. I would LOVE to buy one too, and would except for I'm on TMobile until at least Jan 09. I've thought about the iPod touch, but unless they open up the calendar app, I'm not going to get one (i know, that sounds stupid, but.... oh well). So here's my thoughts:

1. Buy iPhone
2. Slip "lady from work"'s SIM into iPhone
3. Activate
4. Give "lady from work"'s SIM card back - she should be able to resume working normally
5. Slip my TMobile SIM into iPhone
6. Proceed with SIM unlock application du jour
7. Use iPhone with TMobile SIM and ONLY WiFi (NOT going to buy a data plan)

Does this sound logical, or am I drinking far too much kool-aid for a Thursday?

Im not expert on this so take it with a grain of salt. I dont see why you would even need to use her sim card to activate. Assuming you are on a mac, use iNdependence to activate, then proceed with the sim unlock.

iNdependence will still require an AT&T SIM if you want to use any cell phone services (calls, SMS, voicemail). It does not allow an iPhone to work on a competitor's network--that ability just appeared last week and hasn't been worked into a GUI app yet.

So can it be any AT&T SIM, or does it have to be an iPhone/3G SIM?
