Activating iphone and two other "regular phones"

I finally convinced my parents to go to AT&t and i was wondering, if i get the iphone and activate it at home, how will my dad activate a treo and my mom activate just any regular phone? Will they activate those in the store and make me activate mine at home? and since i have a better chance of getting one at the apple store, can i buy an iphone there and then take it to the upstairs AT&T (its in a mall) and buy the other phones there? thanks so much!
