You need to jailbreak and hacktivate your phone. I recommend redsn0w for this. You will then need to use BootNeuter to unlock your baseband.

I agree with thelatinist to use RedSn0w. however, that's ALL you need. Don't worry about Bootneuter. Here's a tutorial for you:

(Comment: Latinist, Bootneuter is only needed after BlackSn0w, not RedSn0w. Wardoggg, ignore this comment)

To be more accurate, redsn0w unlocks the 2G using BootNeuter. Redsn0w just acts as an alternative front end for BootNeuter, it doesn't neuter the bootloader or dowgrade the baseband by itself.

Personally I think Apple is missing on a real opportunity, think about the iTunes store.

If they allowed us to customize with themes, soundboards, etc, etc Apple could sell all of this on the iTunes Apps section and make a lot more money.

However that being said I to feel eventually the exploits will become lost and JB will not happen on the new version of Firmware/OS but until that day, there are really slick ppl out there who can make this stuff happen.

We will all see in time
