Activating Iphone

Hi,

I was wondering weather it was possible to activate an iphone with an old sim card, and then put that sim card back in my old phone to continue using it. Would it still give the the itouch functions for the iphone except with a camera and a mic, and no phone? Please don't ask me why. I just want to know if it is possible.

Any help would be appreciated.

Its a 3g 16gb iphone that currently has no contract on it, and has never been activated.

Whats on the screen when you turn the phone on?
I think all you need to do is stick an AT&T sim card and plug it into itunes.
You wont have to go thru an online agreement or anything.
