Recently picked up an 8+ to use as my backup phone.

I decided to try out different carriers using a prepaid plan. First one I am going to try is AT&T. I picked up a SIM card from them to use with the new to me phone. The phone is unlocked. And it is supposedly both GSM and CDMA enabled.

Here is/are my questions. Should I activate the SIM first before putting it in the phone? Or should I put the SIM card in now and activate both the phone and the SIM at the same time? I have never done this before on a backup-type phone.

Any suggestions/experiences would be appreciated. Thanks!
