So I am getting an iPhone this week and currently I am the main line on a 3 line family plan. Our plan ends in early Sept and Im wondering what happens to the other 2 lines of the family plan if I sign up for my own plan as opposed to just adding the data plan to our current plan? I want my own line but dont want to leave the other 2 users in a bind. Anyone know? thanks!

I believe that you will end up transferring your existing phone number to your new iPhone. Then you'll connect through iTunes and you'll be asked if you have an existing account (and you'll plug in the main phone number for the account). After that, I think you'll be asked about assigning an existing phone number to the iPhone. The iTunes/AT&T activation should then just show you that you have to add the $20 data plan to the account. All else should remain unaffected (e.g., the other phone users should be OK).

When I transferred from Verizon to AT&T, I bought my wife's new phone first and created a new account (and ported her old number). Then I went through iTunes with the iPhone. The activation was smart enough to recognize the family plan that I set up and it just added the data plan.
