Activation Lock issue

myiPad mini has suddenly started displaying the Activation Lock screen and I have unfortunately forgotten my apple id and password.

Is there any way I can fix this?

Reset your Apple ID password maybe? Go to I forgot.apple.com and you can reset by email or answering security questions. If you can't do this or have 2factor authentication you may need to call AppleCare.

Apple will unlock it, but only with a valid receipt of purchase. Once that iCloud lock kicks in, it's a permanent door stop unless you can prove it's yours.
