iPhone Activation

Hello long time since I've been on here ! ,


My Mom has just bought a 3GS that had previously been jail broken , she wasn't aware of this and after plugging it into itunes she updated it to IOS 6 ...

Now when trying to reactivate it through both the phone or itunes it comes up with the message ' iPhone could not be activated due to the server being temporarily unavailable'

I'm aware that this is due to it being previously jailbroken , any idea of how I can get around the activation or a solution please

There is a possibility the phone is still locked to the carrier. You may have to hacktivate or phone or obtain an IMEI unlock. Do you happen to know which carrier it is locked to?

I believe that it was locked to the carrier (EE) before hand , It has since been hactivated before it was updated through iTunes. Now it doesn't recognise the sim. I just don't know where to go from here tried to hack the phone again but it is having none of it
 
You will need to JB it, upgrade and then downgrade from the ipad bb and then install ultrasnow to unlock.
Many many steps so before you attempt anything further you should research and learn some things or bring it to someone that knows how to do it.

Is upgrading the baseband to the iPad one and downgrading it possible for the newer bootrom 3GS or is it only for the older bootrom 3GS?

The issue isn't likely that it was jailbroken but rather software unlocked. In which case you are very possibly screwed. Software based unlocks tweak the firmware which is why restores brick the phone. If you can happen to find someone that has the proper tweaked software for a 3GS they might be able to restore the phone but they will also possibly charge you a small fortune so tread carefully.
