Activity Monitor keeps reappearing in dock -- don't want to have to keep removing it

I used it once, today, and now it keeps reappearing in dock, even after shutdown and restart. How can I prevent that? Thanks!

right click on activity monitor's dock icon, which should bring up a contextual menu. Deselect the "Keep in Dock" and "Open at Login" options.

You might also check "SystemPreferences / Dock" and deselect the bottom entry "Show recent applications in Dock"
