Activity Monitor - User shows #This

Did a recent clean install, before I had my graphics card replaced (iMac 2011 recall). Since then, been having some apps use and extreme amount of ram (Messages was using 64gb one time).

Just noticed this in Activity Monitor, never seen this before. Thinking might have to do another install? Has anyone encountered this before where the user says #This?

Pay attention to the swap space and memory pressure color. As long as the memory pressure color is green and the swap space is low, you are probably okay. Are you experiencing any problems system wide in relation to how responsive the system acts?

Messages using 64 GB on a 12 GB system ? Are you sure? Even for a memory leak that sounds like an awful lot.

As for "#This", check your account short name in System Preferences > Users and Groups, unlock the panel if necessary, right-click on your account and select "Advanced Options" then see if it appears under "Account Name". Otherwise it may just be a bug, but not one I have ever seen before.

That is disturbing. Try opening a Terminal and type 'ps au' the first column USER should show your short username and root. Assuming this is looks normal, I am betting he bug is with Activity Monitor.

To verify/show your short username alone from the Terminal type 'whoami'

$ ps au

Sounds like the OP is referring to virtual memory.

I wish I had taken a pic, but usage was red, physical was 12gb, memory used was 64gb, virtual was 32gb, and swap was 22gb...something in that ballpark. Think I have seen another post here with same problem, computer was in sleep, but Messages was out of control.

Think I figured it out. That was from my standard account, if I logged into my admin account, it shows up normal. So maybe thats a security feature to hide the admin account name?

Not that I've experienced. I can see all the processes and users from a non-admin account.
