Hi all,

Ever since the most recent MacOS update, it seems as if my old ad blocker no longer works. I use YouTube a lot and it seems as if the site is making up for all those years of me blocking their ads now. I can't take it anymore. Any suggestions on an adblocker that still works reliably with the latest MacOS/Safari update?

Cheers.

I use AdGuard DNS on my router. No need to install anything. And nary a nag screen about using an ad blocker since Adguard DNS drops that traffic entirely before it hits your device.

Duck Duck Go. You can disable the UI extension ie the part that advertises to you what it’s blocking and just have the actual ad blocking extension work invisibly in the background.

@OrlandoTragic I would have suggested Wipr, but it seems you want to block the in-video ads that are shown in YouTube. Wipr does not take care of that. I would be happy if someone can suggest a solution that works on both iOS and macOS, rather unobtrusively, and takes care of general ads as well as in-video ads.

I use WIPR, works like a charm and doesn't need to be started or run as a separate app upon login like AdGuard.

I use WIPR on my MBP and iPhone
I also use Adguard and I don't have adguard app as starting app in settings. Actually in activity monitor the only thing I can see related to adguard is "Adguard icon (Safari)"

1Blocker. Works great.

Before you settle with AdGuard that many people recommend, please note that it still doesn’t have any sync, even though they’ve promised it for years. It sucks when you have all your settings correct, and when you manually block elements, and then nothing is synced to your iOS devices. In contrast, 1Blocker syncs everything to your iOS devices.

Yeah? OK, that's nice to know. I do not watch YouTube much, and I have occasionally had some ads in videos, so I thought otherwise. To be clear, I am talking of ads that come in between videos as they play, not the ads on the site itself. :)

Ever since I started using Wipr, I have not used anything else. However, their macOS app has some bugs that did not exist in the Safari extension, and the developer has so far not addressed them, ever since the macOS app came out. That is the ONLY grouse I have with Wipr, other than that there is NOTHING that I do not like about it.

AdGuard works for me
This is all I use for everything now. Best ad blocker I’ve ever used. The lifetime license was worth it. Unlike other ad blockers, with DNS privacy enabled, the ad blocking works in every app.

Pi-hole running in a VM on a Proxmox server. If I'm away from home, I connect to my network using OpenVPN.
