Commonly recommended apps include 1Blocker, Ad Block Multi, Adblock Fast, Admop, Blockr, Purify, Silentium and some others.

Adblock Plus and Crystal are known to take money from advertisers to include them in a whitelist that is turned on by default. The desktop version of Adblock has recently been acquired by the maker of Adblock Plus and the iOS version may not be far behind. It's up to you to decide if you find that acceptable.

Just a heads-up, the new "owner" of Adblock has not been disclosed to date, although Adblock’s previous director, Gabriel Cubbage is back in charge of operations again. http://thenextweb.com/apps/2015/10/02/trust-us-we-block-ads/
