I need to connect a classic Apple Studio Display (clear acryl-plastic case) to a new MacBook 13 (USB-C port.)

I have done research on it but I had run up against a block, lack of facts. I guess I could get Apple's USB-C Digital AV Multiport Adapter relying in good faith upon the quality of Apple's older adapters; I already have a DVI to ADC adapter, reason being the Apple Studio Display was attached to a 2006 Mac mini.

Now, given the plethora of things that can go wrong when relying on two additional adapters to get the picture from the laptop to the display, I would love to know if there is a proved way to get this done. Or at least, the required leap of faith might be worth the spending.

Thanks for your reply. Any issue worth mentioning or is it safe procedure? TIA.

So far it works fine. Just bought the USB-C multiport adapter this week.

I use the computer with the screen lid closed while using the external screen. When the Power is unplugged from the computer the external screen doesn't come on and I have tried to wake it with external keyboard and mouse, as soon I plug in the power to the computer the external screen wakes up again. don't know why it does that.

That's good news. I can attest that ADC to DVI > third-party DVI to USB-C adapter did not work, at least not using the third-party adapter I tried. The monitor flickers to black. Hopefully I will have more luck with the HDMI route.

I'm curious, if anyone tried ADC to DVI > DVI to Mini DisplayPort > Mini DisplayPort to HDMI > HDMI to USB-C? It sounds like a long route, but I already own the first three adapters and would then be able to use the HDMI to USB-C adapter for travel purposes as well.

I can confirm that Antoni's method works for me too. For reference, I have the 2000 acrylic Apple Cinema Display and have been able to connect to both an intel-based macbook pro and a macbook air with M1 chip.

ADC > DVI > HDMI > USB-C

Here are the parts that work for me:
Apple ADC to DVI adapter M8661LL/B
Any brand of HDMI male to DVI-D single link female adapter
Any brand of HDMI to USB-C seems to work

Can you be more specific about the "HDMI male to DVI-D single link female adapter"?

I can't find a female DVI adapter of any kind. I have everything else.

On the other hand, I just checked what would happen if I used the only DVI to USB C adapter that I've had success with connected to my Cinema Displays and it works with the Studio Display too!

Apple ADC to DVI > DVI(dual link)to USB c > MacBook Pro 2016

The thing in the middle is

Club 3D CAC-1510-A USB C to Dual Link DVI-D Adapter HDCP Off for Apple Cinema Displays

I also used the Apple USB-C multiport adapter to collect the USB A cable from the ADC/DVI.

Really stoked to be able to get the old displays going again. That Club 3D adapter has become the MVP around here.
