add fastest external HD to iMac

Good evening

I am trying to see what is the best option to get the fastest external HD on my iMac to improve performance.
on my iMac max speed is 90mb/s while on ssd i am getting 480 read and 150 write.

I want to know what would be the best option:
Thunderbolt -- SATA-III case -- SSD
USB 3.0 -- SATA-III case -- SSD

if you have any suggestions and or examples people used that is good?
ps: i looked at the lacie on their site : however max 122mb/s (which is not fast enough)

Get a USB3 external enclosure that is specifically stated to support UASP (USB Attached SCSI Protocol), and it will be equal in speed to a thunderbolt enclosure (which costs considerably more).

I get ~400MB/sec Write and ~430MB/sec Read using this enclosure and this drive externally. You can get much faster in a RAID configuration, but I think USB 3 is saturated at these speeds and no one makes a similarly affordable, single drive TB enclosure that is even close.

An SSD with a high-quality controller is important to get these top speeds. I bought the 256GB Samsung EVO 850 to put in an old Windows notebook, but connected it to my IMac first to check the speeds. I think it was somewhere around 300MB/sec Write. That's fine for a SATA II connection, but I knew USB 3 was capable of much more. I opted for the "Pro" when I was shopping for an external to use with my new iMac. The "Pro" versions of this drive comes with Samsungs improved MEX controller, which is more efficient. The 1TB EVO 850 uses this controller as well. 256GB and 512 GB use something else. Garbage Collection may be better on these controllers as well.

i bought one of the samsung external usb 3.0 drivers 500 gb the T1 model

screen shot of speeds below,i do have a internal tho which does 700 read and write but wanted an external that was reasonably priced and this is def great

Depends on which gen TB.

If TB2 you can get speeds over 1K using TB enclosure with PCIE SSD

I don't know if am using a good case but i don't the SanDisk 240GB 520MB/s SATA III Solid State Drive Plus.
but the case is a Thermaltake ST0022 SATA III BlacX Duel 5G.. 2 problems, it doesnt allow only 1 drive to be connected. you need 2 or nothing is detected (strange no?) also max i can do is like 203 read/write
