Anyone got any tips for adding a printer in Big Sur, an HP LaserJet P1005 in particular.
Thanks
You are going to have to ask HP directly if they have plans to release a Big Sur version at all. Thanks, all.
Apple no longer supplies printer drivers for specific printers as it once did. See the splash notice on this page:
About AirPrint
AirPrint is an Apple technology that helps you create full-quality printed output without the need to download or install drivers.support.apple.com
So the old “add printer” dialogue no longer does everything for you.
The driver package from HP’s website won’t instal on Bug Sur (says it is incompatible with the volume), nor will the same driver package available from Apple:
HP 5.1.1 Printer Software Update – Apple Support (UK)
HP 5.1.1 Printer Software Update can be installed on macOS Monterey and is recommended for all users.support.apple.com
The generic printer drivers in Big Sur for HP LaserJet also don’t work with the printer.
It is an old printer, but it still has life left in it. Perhaps HP will release Big Sur drivers eventually. I was just hoping to find a way to get it to work now. Was also posting to see if others have had similar problems and to flag the issue for anyone else who is thinking about installing Big Sur.
Thanks for the ideas.
I have a HP ENVY Photo 7100 series that I bought from the Apple Store. It no longer works and I can't find what if anything I need to load to get it to work. I tried this from above HP Printer Drivers v5.1 for OS X and it says these no longer work with 11.0.
Any suggestions??
did you try the built-in (native) drivers on the Mac first? On my wife's new MacBookPro running Catalina, when she went to printers, it found our networked Samsung Laserjet, but didn't install it correctly. The solution was to delete it from printers, and have it find it again. Her computer had too many issues, so we returned that and got a new one, which had the exact same issue for the printer and the same solution.
No. We used whatever the default is when you look for printers in settings.did you try the built-in (native) drivers on the Mac first?
If it doesn’t find dedicated drivers, it usually defaults to AirPrint if it is supported. And those will not be good for anything else than photos or other basic prints.No. We used whatever the default is when you look for printers in settings.
