My iMac has to have its screen replaced under the AppleCare warranty (dust behind the glass panel, bottom left and bottom right of the screen, as well as pinkish discolouring on the sides). The Apple authorised service agent in my area has confirmed they will do this.

While the unit is opened, I would like them to add an existing SSD that I already have, a 1TB Crucial MX500, to the iMac, presumably using an existing SATA connector. The unit already has a 500GB Apple PCIe SSD installed.

My question: Does the iMac have a SATA III connector to add the second SSD, over and above the PCIe SSD already installed? I have not been able to get an answer for this online. The service agent also has not yet responded.

Im pretty sure if the imac shipped with an ssd not a fusion the sensor and sata 3 cable wont be there.

True, I am not really expecting there to be the required cable - if I want to go this route I may need to get the cable from OWC first. The service agent is accredited by Apple (Makina Technologies, Dubai). If they are prepared to do it, I am OK with that as the unit is long out of warranty anyway and the Apple Care warranty will lapse in a few months.

I am only doing this because I am going to have the screen replaced under the Apple Care warranty. If the SSD cannot be installed, then I will go the USB route.

Many thanks for all the answers. Will let you know how things work out.
