I'm on a Mac Mini M1 with a newer Dell as main monitor. I pulled out the older Dell and hooked it up as second display, wanting to use it for Kindle in a pivoted view. So I'm reading my Kindle on the 2nd display, touch mouse to Notes and suddenly it takes over the 2nd display, hiding Kindle.

What should I be doing to be able to do one thing only on the 2nd display and not have it overtaken by other apps I try to use ?

Thank you.

Usually if you open an app and position it on the monitor you want, next time you open it, it will open in the same place.

Mark, the issue I have is my app is on that second monitor, but when I click in monitor 1 on my calendar - it takes over display 2 and covers over my app.

Just to clarify; you have Calendar open on monitor 1, but when you interact with Calendar it's window moves completely to monitor 2 by itself? And if so, does that happen with any other apps or just Calendar specifically?

sound like your ”second” monitor is configured as the main display. If that is the case: Open the System Preferences and go to Displays.

With a second display connected, you will see a tab called Arrangement. This is where you can change the order of the displays i.e. which display appears on the right, and which appears on the left. You should set it up so that it matches the physical layout of the displays.

You will notice that one of the displays has a white bar at the top. This white bar indicates which display is the primary display on macOS. To change the primary display, click and drag this white bar and drop it on to the display that you want to set as the primary display.

So if you open newly e.g. your calender, its window appears on the new primary display.

This doesn't seem clear, could you take a photo..?
An app will only be on one screen in MacOS unless it has undockable windows.
