iCloud Added custom domain to iCloud and now I can’t remove it

I added a custom domain to iCloud, I have now removed it, however the email address is still appearing on iCloud.com mail, and in my device settings etc…

I can still receive email to the address but I can’t send emails, I have removed everything off the domain as well.

So I can’t understand why it hasn’t just simply been removed, anyone have any advice on what to do?

I have had exactly the same issue, and done exactly as you have. I even left it several days to a week and it still shows as an email option on iCloud and mail on my devices. Despite not showing as a custom domain in settings any more.

Yeah it must be a bug within iCloud… what I have noticed is when removing the custom domain at iCloud.com it stops you being able to send email, receive or make FaceTime calls or send or receive iMessages from the address however, it still appears as an email option in mail, and still appears as an email address under your Apple ID and your still able to receive email via iCloud to the address also… even though all of the DNS records are removed from your domain.

I just can’t understand how emails can still be received via iCloud even though the DNS records are removed… very strange!

I think once the domain is added to iCloud for the time being you will always receive emails to the address via iCloud… must be something to do with Apple servers not updating correctly or something…

I haven’t tested what happens once you add DNS records for a new email provider to your domain though, whether this then stops iCloud from receiving the emails.

I have resisted using these iCloud features for this very reason. Until Apple is sure this is something that benefits them financially (long-term), they don't put a whole lot of effort into it and it rarely works as intended or as easily as they make it seem.

I have just resorted to continue using iCloud for the meantime… but it’s going to a pain in the a$$ if I want to move to a different provider, as I will probably start getting emails to that account as well as my iCloud 😂

Once you have changed the dns records they need some time until they change on the server. Perhaps the records have not yet changed. Try checking the dns records on who.is or similar site.

If incoming emails are still working, you’ll want to fix that with your domain registrar before you delete it from iCloud. Otherwise incoming emails go nowhere ¯\_(ツ)_/¯ Right now your registrar is sending them to Apple, so Apple has two choices: Reject them, or forward them to you.

Yeah if I remove all the domain entries Apple gives you and register new entries for another email provider the emails keep going to iCloud but also the new email too… it’s a very strange one.
