I had 45 minutes to kill this evening, so I modified a wireless charger and installed it in my car to create a hidden inductive charging station for my iPhone 8 Plus.

My car’s a 2017 Ford Fusion, and it has a recessed area underneath the infotainment system (in the center console) which fits an iPhone 8 Plus perfectly. I disassembled the wireless charger (purchased from Amazon) and modified the housing to allow for ample coverage and installation. I removed several trim pieces from the center console and ran the USB power cable to an Aukey USB power outlet inside the console under the armrest.

I’m pleased with the result, as I was initially going to use an add-a-fuse to power it, so no extra supplies or soldering needed.

Easy DIY, good job! :)

I was thinking about doing the exact same thing in my new 2017 Mazda 3, however the trim parts including their rubber covers are quite thick where I can place the , which I guess can be an issue with the Qi coils if they cannot reach the phone on top.

Any idea where I can put one in a Mercedes C280? I guess I can put one in the center armrest thing. But annoying there’s no place to lay your phone at all in this car!

Cool, still deciding if i'll try adding wireless charging to my car or stick with charging through the lighting port for quicker charging on the go

Very clever! Cadillac has been putting wireless chargers in their newer vehicles for about a year or two now so hopefully other automakers will follow suit.
