Hi everyone. I've been reading on here and other websites about adding 802.11ac Airport WiFi + Bluetooth 4.0 to older Macs by purchasing the Broadcom BCM94360CD card and an adapter that allows the retrofit.

My question is - I can't seem to find a straight answer on what the install is like for the 2008 iMac (mine is a 24" that came with the 2.4GHz Core 2 Duo processor); so what all is involved to get both upgrades working? I know how to change the card itself. And it does appear that the WiFi part of the card is pretty straightforward, but for the Bluetooth, some websites say soldering is required and some say it's not. Also, are the available adapters different in any way? Meaning is there any reason I should pay the high price OSXWifi charges or will (what looks to be) the same kit for $40 on eBay work just fine? It does appear that OSXWifi's adapter has 2 pins on the top that the eBay ones do not.

Also, the same questions apply for my 2008 Mac Pro, so if anyone can comment on that install that would be great too.

I know there's plenty of articles out there about this upgrade but even after reading many it still seems to be a blur. If there's soldering involved I don't want to bother but if not I'd love to try this. I'm mainly just concerned with getting 802.11ac working anyways, but the better Bluetooth would be great.

Thanks in advance.
