Hey guys,

Iam thinking about purchasing a second monitor and I am wondering if my iMac C2D w/ stock video card would be able to run a 30'' ACD? I think its the same card as on the MBP and I believe the MBP can run a 30'' ACD? Has anyone tried this or know of anyone who has this setup? I plan on using the ACD primarily with my future laptop but would like to use it in conjunction w/ my iMac if possible. Thanks guys! :D

I'd like to know if it's possible too. I have an extra Samsung 19" LCD sitting around. Would like to use it as a second display also.

the imacs connect via mini-dvi, while the MBPs connect via DVI. I don't think mini-dvi has enough punch to power a 30" ACD

just checked on the iMac tech specs page; it can push a 23" display (1920 x 1200) at max.

No, 30" displays require dual-link DVI. The maximum resolution (size doesn't matter, you could go up to 27" as long as the res is the same), as stated, is 1920x1200. That's for all non-pro lines: mini, iMac, MacBook.

The MacBook Pro, however, does support dual-link DVI, and can drive that 30" beast.

okay thanks for the quick responses guys! I may still go for the 30'' but I will wait until I get a notebook to power it. :D
