Adding a second internal ssd to ssd version.

I ordered a 27" 5K with 1TB SSD. I would like to add a second internal SSD. Is the Hard Drive SATA and Power cable the same part as it is in the 2015 model? I can't find any 2017 model parts online yet. Also, is the OWC inline digital thermal sensor needed to add an SSD?

I understand that by doing this I will void my warranty. Any help would be much appreciated.

The internal SSD in the new iMac is not SATA. It uses what looks like a blade style SSD similar to what is in the MacBook Pro. I believe the connector is not standard, it is Apple propertiery.

Adding a second internal drive? I don't think this is at all possible. Where would the drive even sit, and what would it connect to?
 
I don't think Apple used a standard motherboard with sata/m2 ports. So I would say not possible.

Thinking about this more you could probably replace the spinning hard drive portion of the Fusion drive with another SSD.
 
Legally speaking, you would not void your warranty unless you damaged the iMac. However, if you did ever take the iMac to Apple for repairs unrelated to your opening and upgrade, you would probably have to fight them over it. Magnuson-Moss Warranty Act of 1975 -IANAL
 
The 2017 models do not differ that much from the 2015. For the Fusion drive model there is an teardown available on youtube. So best to wait for an SSD model teardown. But it seems no one is very willing to crack it open.

Plug in an external SSD, either USB3 or thunderbolt.
You'll enjoy nearly all the speed of what an internal drive would provide (IF it was even possible to install one).
And you won't risk breaking anything and/or voiding the warranty.
