I've upgraded a early 2009 4.1 mac pro to 5.1 with new processors, metal GPU with the OS up to Catalina. The original machine did not come installed with bluetooth or wifi which I'd like to install now. I see lots of very different cards with widely varied pricing online. Any advice to help cut though this would be much appreciated. I'm looking for a reasonably simple and effective solution not necessarily the absolute cheapest.

Thanks. The process outlined there is very well presented though more complex than I'm prepared to tackle since wifi and bluetooth are not essential for me at this point. I would probably upgrade if there were a solution closer to plug and play.

I upgraded with a AC/BT card from a fairly recent iMac and an adapter for PCIe and couple of wiring adapters bought on Amazon, took some 10 minutes. It's actually dead easy and involves merely removing the CPU tray.
