Hey guys,

Im new here so I don't know if I am posting in the right place.

I have a Mid 2012 MacBook Pro, I currently run one external monitor via the thunderbolt/mini display port. I want to add a second external monitor but the problem is my thunderbolt port is slowly dying. At the moment I have to have the lead in the exact right spot to get the external monitor to work and if I slightly touch the lead or hit my desk too hard the connection cuts out and can take me 10 mins trying to find the right spot again.

Now I am wanting to add a second external monitor I have been looking for more reliable connection options. I have come across USB to HDMI adaptors but I don't know how good these are? Additionally I have been looking at getting my thunderbolt fixed but I don't know if that is possible.

Can anyone give advice on what I should do? I am happy with my MacBook and other than the thunderbolt it works perfectly. All I want is to be able to reliably run my MacBook and two additional external monitors.

Thanks for your help!

I found USB to HDMI adaptors very iffy. I had one that worked for a while but a MacOS update killed it.

Look at J5Create (j5create.com). They have some good stuff... we use a 4-way TB3/USB-C to HDMI in our media center at church that works great... have to load drivers (and upgrading from Catilina to Big Sur required updated drivers)... but otherwise, flawless operation.
