I have a 21.5 inch 2017 model 2.3ghz and 8 gigs of memory in it. I am in the process of upgrading the memory here in the next month or so and my question is Apple says this model is maxed out at 16 gigs. Has anyone tried adding more memory than what apple is saying a machine will hold? If i put in 32 would it show more than 16 or is that just wasting money?

i have read a few threads where it says Apple has downplayed the max ram that a machine will hold and run with. That is where my question comes from as i would love to put 32 in this machine but if i am truly governed at 16 thats is what it will have to be.

Yes, it's 32GB. Generally macsales.com (OWC) has tested the machines and is good at letting you know the actual maximum usable memory.
