Does anyone know if iMacs that were bought with a SSD (no fusion drive) have the hard drive brackets and SATA cables preinstalled for that bay even though there isn't a drive there or is it just totally empty? I haven't been able to find any tear downs for iMacs that originally came with just the PCIe SSD equipped.

I don't think the drive caddy or the cables are installed if theres no drive. however I would imagine that the ports are still on the logic board, so you could just buy the caddy and cables and add the drive that way.

One of the similar threads (that didn't show up in a search) answered my question. Nothing is there making it a much harder upgrade than I am willing to do for the risk-benefit. Maybe 5 years from now, when the warranty is long gone!
