iPod adding songs to ipod classic without them going onto iTunes?

sorry new to this whole iTunes/iPod thing and i dont know how i can add songs from cds without having to upload them to iTunes first, isnt there a way just to rip them straight from cd onto iPOd? i dont really want to have to put all my cd collection onto my computer.....

if you are using itunes to rip the CD then is not really any additional work required.

Anything is possible, but I don't see any real value in trying to rip the CDs with a program other than itunes and the use a different method to transfer the MP3s to the ipod

No. It has to go into the computer first.
You can delete them after.

If you do this make sure to have your iPod set to manually sync music or you will lose it off your iPod. I do not advise this however, it is easier to keep everything on your computer and have auto sync on. It just makes life easier.
