adding songs to iTunes

first i'd like to say hello this is my first post!

i love the iTunes interface it works really nice i like being able to batch process ID3 tag's but i have one problem. with thousands of songs on my iPod how am i suppose to find where a song is placed in my library when i add it without going into each song and figureing out what ID3 info was attached to the song. i always add songs and never check the informaiton in a differnt applicaion first so i have to hunt for the damn thing among thousands of songs because usually it isnt the inforamiton i want in the tag. i usually end up just sorting by genere and finding it because all of the generes on my iPod are slightly differnt then the norm. it would be so nice iTunes asked first if you want to change the info of the songs you are importing or at least put the to the top or bottom or the list or highlighted them or somthing! does this bother any of you and what is your work around?

Add the "Date Added" column to your view and sort on that, that will put the files in the order you added them to the library (top or bottom, your choice ).

great thanks ill go through and do that now and make my life allot easier! i didnt realize you could add and remove catagores or that you could drag them around. guess i should have played with the application instead of spending 2 months hasseling with this problem only to land here and have my problem resolved in seconds lol.

If you're importing from a CD then you can change their names before they get imported. In fact, even once they're importing you can change the ones that haven't been done yet.

To be honest though, I think it'd be annoying if iTunes asked me what to call everything before I added it. I find the search feature pretty good at narrowing things down for me and all my music is kept very well tagged (because I'm anally retentive ) though.

i can see how it would be a hassle with CD's but with .mp3's or CD's that were not encoded or it could not locate the info on it wouldnt be bad. i get allot of hiphop from hiphop sites that are freestyles that re free to download but the tag info is usually a advertisement for the site and that's it so when importing 30 songs like that when they area all different albums, artists, and maybe even differnt genere's it would help me lol. now that i have the date added catagory this issue is resolved so i'm good to go!

That's the joy of most Apple applications, they've thought of most everything, and if you jst play with it, you'll find it. Or, someone here in this forum knows exactly how to help, typically offering about 5 equally good solutions.
