I just want ONE simple wallpaper behind the Apps on my newly jail broken iPhone. I am trying to keep things as minimal, and less intensive as possible.

also, if i delete say "winterboard" through cydia does that leave any traces of the app on the phone, to still potentally slow down the phone even if its not "installed"

thanks!

Save an image to your camera roll then set it as your wallpaper in settings.

BossPaper is very resource friendly and will allow you to wallpaper springboard, it also has a couple of dock alternatives and the ability to remove icon text if needed.

i have tried it, but it was impossible for it to find ONE image, without alternating between many diff images. It wouldn't search my photos app, only camera roll.

Please read the question.
I thought my answer was too simple but I'm obviously missing the question here. He wants a springboard wallpaper. ONE springboard wallpaper. What am I missing?

It wouldn't search my photos app, only camera roll.

View the photo you want and tap it so the statusbar and footerbar go away then take a screenshot. Is it then in your camera roll where you can select it?

On the iphone, when you select the wallpaper in your settings, it applies it to the lockscreen. Not the springboard.

I'm feeling dumb and must still be missing something because mine applies to SpringBoard.

I just tried it by using settings to change to an Apple flower wallpaper then back to the normal background I use from my camera roll.

Oh I think I see now. I am indeed an idiot. I turned off "User Wallpaper" in winterboard and it does only apply to the lockscreen.

So, a non-jailbroken iphones is stuck with a black background? I haven't spent much time with a non-jailbroken phone, but this is hard to believe.

Try Desktop/SMS Background from the iSpazio repository. I tried it because I'm slowly moving away from winterboard and, until this thread, thought I had only 3 things left to work around. It seems to work great.

yep! I tried that this morning. as far as i can see its looking pretty good, and i dont think i am using that much ram on the phone.

opening iStat once i reboot my device i have 156mb free. (there might be a better jailbroken app to see the processes on my phone i assume to) Thats with music controls, universal search, quickreply for sms, and sms backgrounds installed. I don't think thats to bad at all is it?

Oh you have a 3GS? Pffff... don't worry about ram, leave that to us 3Gers. Mine maxes out at 85MB free, but it usually stays around 60. You have 2.6 times the free memory as me.

I just get crazy over it. Like i notice that sometimes the apps launch animation is choppy with the more ram being used!

While your being kind and answering my questions, could you answer one more? With me being pretty new to this whole jailbreaking thing, if i download an APP from cydia, if i go into manage, and delete the package, does that mean its completely off of the phone, and not leaving any of the files of the app in the OS?

I have found plists from apps left in /var/mobile/Library/Preferences and a few odd directories that were created and never deleted when the app was uninstalled. The plists are preferences that can be deleted.

Anything that saves info, like a note app, might leave the text behind in case you need it, or a game might leave your saved games, but I doubt they would leave anything that would keep running. I haven't seen anything left on my phone to worry about anyway.

I have just one picture for my springboard and I use BossPaper. Just make sure "Change On Timer" is off and just select one picture using "Individual Pictures". I add images directly into the factory wallpaper folder and navigate to there with BossPaper.

In order for the pics to work in the wallpaper folder they have to be named in sequential order....119.png, 120.png, 121.png, etc...
