So it's possible to upgrade the internal storage of a new Mac, but my response to this video is HELL NO!

I bought an external 8 TB Samsung SSD, and it was a fraction of cost of buying that much internal storage at the time of purchase and way easier than trying to replace the storage. For the purpose of proof of concept, this is a neat video, but I highly recommend not doing this.

SSD options added later

External storage is not always practical depending on the situation. Obviously, this is not a regular upgrade path the general public can do. However, if there were enough skilled people offering these upgrades as a service and, even with a labor cost, the upgrade averaged half of what Apple charges for the same upgrade it might put pressure on Apple to make their storage upgrades more reasonably priced.

I seriously doubt it would make any difference at all. In fact, Apple would LOVE for people to do this sort of upgrade... easy rejection of warranty issues! "Non-original part installed by non-qualified service technician"

Lack of skill will prevent this from being done outside of Asia. In China, every other repair shop offers storage upgrades for iPhone and Mac.
