Adding to a contact issue

When I add a new number to an existing contact, the contact's ringtone resets to the default ringtone but keeps the existing vibration setting.

Is there any way to set it so the the default ringtone doesn't reset?

Using a 16 GB iPhone 4S with the most current iOS.

I haven't seen that before. What service are your contacts synced with?

I don't sync my contacts beyond backing up my phone with iTunes.
