ramble... I'm trying to understand the logic of Apple Music-on the one hand they're attempting to completely blur the line between your owned music and the streaming library, and on the other hand putting up strange walls between the two.

If I'm paying for streaming access to all the music, why does every artist page have an 'all' and 'My music' tab separator at the top? (My Music isn't even 'My Music', it's my owned music plus streaming songs that I've 'added'. Isn't all the streaming service 'my music' by that logic?

Same goes for the search field - why is it two separate tabs here?

The showstopper for me so far is with playlists- I can't just add a song to a playlist. I have to add it to my ('My') library first, and then go find it and add it to a playlist?* What new hell is this? I don't want it in my library in the first place, but more importantly, I need to be able to one-click add songs to playlists. This was basically the #1 most used feature for me on Spotify.

*As I look at it further, it looks like I can't from some types of content (artist pages) but can from others (album pages) Hope this is just a huge bug.

While I'm here- you can make a smart playlist for songs you 'love', but when you 'love' something that's not in 'my ('my') music' it does not add it to that playlist. Was hoping to replicate the ease of use of Spotify here once again, where everything you 'star' gets put into a playlist. For me it's the quickest way to keep track of stuff I like when I'm listing to random stations and playlists.

OK one more- what tab am I supposed to be under when I'm just listening to music and looking up artists and stuff? It seems to just jump around from 'my music', 'playlists' and 'new'. I have zero sense of place in this app.

One other more - any way to make the playlists list permanent on the left side on desktop? So I could drag to it from anywhere?

It's annoying, yes. There is a micro-workaround to make it just a little bit less annoying: If you click on the three-dot-button next to a song and add it to "My Music" and wait for a second or two, then if you click on the three-dot-button again, it will give you the option to add it to a playlist.

That is not the one-click option that should exist (and that exists, albeit in buggy form, on iPad and iPhone), but at least you don't have to go into your library afterwards to find the song again.

I agree with everything else you said. Lots of people do, actually.

I couldn't replicate the add to playlist without adding to my music first bug

Oh sorry about that. I thought you meant the mobile app.

Hopefully this is just a bug.

I think it makes sense to make the distinction between 'all music' and 'my music'.
Let's say you want to shuffle all your songs and there's no way to determine 'my music',
you'd have to plow through a huge pile of garbage without finding something you like.

Thank you for this! I was going nuts trying to add a few tunes from an Apple-curated playlist to a personally created playlist.

Yeah ... I figured out this workaround after much swearing. They really need to fix these issues. I know this is the first version of their app so hopefully future iterations will suck less.

I am finding there is no rhyme or reason to...

• What can be added to a playlist from where, and how. Today while on my phone I was able to add songs directly from a playing radio station to a playlist without adding to my library or loving it.

• How and from where I can get to an artist page. I found this option completely missing from certain places on mobile, but on desktop it was completely inconsistent.

I was going to upload a bunch of screengrabs showing how the dropdown is inconsistent across various places, but I think these two screen grabs prove it all must be a bug. Which I guess is a good thing?

Same dropdown minutes later:

I personally find it illogical how the Artist pages are located both under 'My Music' and 'Playlists' tabs. And then sometimes they give you back and forward arrows, but they come and go as they please. I do wonder if persistent arrows might make this simpler.
