I have been considering buying a 21.5" iMac but am wondering if you think Apple will introduce the video input feature from the 27" at some point in the future?

I really like this idea so that I can connect my MacBook and possibly a pc for gaming but don't have the space for the 27" version.

As of right now your guess is as good as anyone else's. No one knows if or when. Right now just the 27'' has it. Maybe they will bring it down to the 21.5 in a future refresh, maybe not and just keep it on the higher end. No one knows until it is released.

Does anyone know if the video input mode requires different hardware or is it done through firmware or software?

Even if it is hardware it can't cost that much in include. It frustrates me that :apple: always seems to put all the nice features on the most expensive models which not all of us can afford!

Thats true but I was wanting to replace my old pc with the iMac. I'd rather not buy a new pc for general use if I don't have to. I would just like the option of using it as a monitor for an external system if I choose to do so.
