Title might be a little confusing, but ultimately here is what I need.

I have a 2017 imac with 2 TB3 ports on the back. I have multiple hard drives and SD readers that I operate simultaneously to move files from one to the other. A couple of them were standard USB to Micro B. Upgraded the cables to usb-c for the hopes of faster transfer speeds.

That being said, I only have 2 ports in the rear. I dont need to charge my macbook or anything, so I literally just want something that I can plug 3-4 usb-c or TB3 cables into and access them at the same time on my desktop.

didnt want to spend $300 on a TB3 dock that is trying to get me to plug ethernet and multiple displays into it.

Thanks in advance.

USB A/B/C won't make a lick of difference as far as speed is concerned. All that matters is the speed of the USB interface on the device and computer. For USB 3.x that's going to be SuperSpeed 5/10/20 Gbps. Almost nothing is 20 yet just 5/10.

As you say these devices are USB. Thunderbolt doesn't matter. If they are only hard drives and SD Card 5 Gbps USB is fine. They won't operate any faster than that. If you really want a USB 3.1 Gen 2 hub (10 Gbps) with USB C. They are available

The big deal with USB C is it is reversable, can deliver a lot more power, may be combined with Thunderbolt and combined with DisplayPort.

Thunderbolt 3 as far as I can tell will mean buying a dock and most only offer USB 5Gbps. Thunderbolt is going to add a lot to the price.

Thank you,

I realized that after typing it that I might have been blowing smoke up my own rear with this topic.

I think the real reason I started going to a hub was due to the fact that my factory SD reader is not UHSII compatible and I had a bunch of issues when moving photos and videos from newer faster cards

so I moved to an SD reader that was and ran it through the port instead.

I appreciate the response for sure
