Do you mean like.. automatically be selected, or you don't know how to switch tabs?

if it's the former, I dunno.

if it's the latter, just click on the tab or command -> or command <- over. it's all good.
(apple thingiee left and apple thingiee right, put into better english.. haha)

what do you mean file transfer options? if your talking about what i think you are, go to Adium>preferences>file transfer and there are some options there.

I dont think there is an option to do that as far as I know, it will be great though :)

I use file transfer quite a bit and have never had any problems!
The only thing I don't like... is that if the person you are chatting to you doesn't necessarily tell you they are about to send you a file... then the transfer window thingie... is often hidden underneath all the other active apps / windows open.

Thats a pretty big problem, but not as big as the one i'm having which is the transfer box never appears on the other persons screen. It simply des not work. I have tried many times to transfer things through adium and not one did anything get downloaded. not one kb!

Yeah, that's annoying.

As for the original question, I don't have Adium take to me a user's chat window each time they IM me. I don't recall setting it that way - that is just the default behavior for me. *shrug*

A little OT...

so I'm assuming that all of you posting use Adium? Do you like it a lot more than iChat? I just... really like the way iChat looks w/ its adorable speech bubbles and whatnot. But if you all really really like Adium, maybe I will give it a shot.

never had any problems with it! the transfer didn't seem to work until 0.81 or so, but it's been fine since..

The best of both worlds.

MacRumors' own MBHockey created an iChat-like, brushed metal skin for Adium. I've been using it for a long time now, looks great.

As for the iChat/Adium comparison I like Adium quite a bit. iChat does have more of an Apple feel to it, but Adium is good. If iChat got tabbed-IM windows and logging I might consider switching back. I do like the multi-network support, but I only know 2 people on MSN's network though. I wish Trillian was ported to OS X - that IM client kicks @ss! :D

i used to use adium exclusively and didnt ever open ichat on my ibook for almost 3 months, but i think i prefer ichat right now, if only because it's new to me. they're both good programs, but sometimes i think windowed browsing is superior to tabbed browsing...

I skinned mine to have the speech bubbles!! :):)
adiumxtras.com is AWESOME! When I get a new message, the dock duck (say that 3 times fast) plays the violin! it's so cute!

So much the customizable, but... the file transfers DO suck. If anyone has to send me anything, I just tell them to GMail it.
:D I <3 google
