Have any app developers here received the $250 ad credit email from Admob and actually signed up and received the credit? I signed up and it said I was supposed to get the $250 automatically but I've seen nothing yet.

I got the email, but I have to admit I'm a little bit weary..
Something is telling me it's not a good idea.

Of course, this is just my opinion, but I figure if they are that good, why do the need to scour the itunes app store and email us (without us having signed up to anything at all)? Wouldn't they attract customers automatically (or even be too busy to deal will small-fries like us when they have coca cola signed up)?

On top of that, the ad-inclusive apps seem to attract quite a big amount of negative reviews and don't they require that the user is online? One of the main points of my app is that it can be used without the need for online/network connection.

Again, just my opinion, but I'd stay clear. If you develop a good app it will sell what you're asking for it and you'll earn more than you would from posting ads on it.

I signed up and was thinking to ad advertising to my app but I got rejected!
Of course I also never saw the $250 Dollars for doing my own advertising! :-(

BUT on the other hand I DO still receive their spam-mails trying to talk me and other people into signing up (again?).

My Opinion: Don't do it! To me they seem a bit to eger to get new customers...

But as always YMMV!
Bye, Markus.

I just got around to signing up and I'm not seeing a credit either. Aside from the email I never saw any message saying I should get one either.

Well if your app is so good, why would you need to advertise that? ;) Good work often goes unnoticed because it's not advertised well. Sometimes word of mouth is all you need, but not always. It's not uncommon for a lower quality service or product to do better just because it was promoted better. All the offer shows is that they're trying to grow their business... If they're letting me try it out for free that seems pretty reasonable.

(Now if I have to enter my credit card info or anything just to get a free credit, that would be sketchy.)

I emailed admob shortly after creating this thread and they emailed me back yesterday. They put the $250.00 into my account and offered to talk to me on the phone to discuss the most efficient advertising strategy. I am going to wait to run my ads until I release a major update of my app in a couple of weeks, so we'll see if it makes a difference.

Wanted to respond when I saw your questions- my name is Mike & I'm the PM for AdMob for iPhone and I apologize for any confusion.
We are making developers the offer of $250 in advertising credit (to clarify - not cash) because we know that many developers don't have experience advertising and we want to encourage you to try it and see results (increased downloads, improved ranking) for yourself. When you receive the email with the $250 offer in advertising credits, you should contact our sales director: fassil@admob.com to redeem the credits. Credits won't automatically appear in your account when you register on our site.
We've had several top apps advertise with us since our launch in July including: vSNAX Videos, Stitcher, Loopt, Moblyng, SnapMyLife, Zkout, Whrrl, and HappyAppys' Expando, ClockBlock, and Word Whirl.

Hi Mike. What if one's already emailed that address a few times and had no response? I've even emailed using the form on your web site and still no credit to try the service on my account. Can you help in any way?

I got the credit added to my account. Took 23 minutes for the $250 to disappear :O No real impact on sales unfortunately but that could just be my app!

Mike, I sent an email about my missing credits four days ago, and have yet to receive a response back from fassil@admob.com. I would like to try you guys out, but you're not making this at all easy.

That seems rather extreme. Did you bid really high or something?

Mike, same for me...I've also send 3 e-mails now, 2 of them to Fassil and nothing happens...doesn't make it look to good somehow...

43672 impressions, 942 click throughs in that time. I bid 22cents per click which is only 2cents above the minimum.

To be honest, it sounds a bit suspicious to me....

22 cents per click??? wow...I tried with about 4 cents. Sure that also drained my budget pretty fast as I also had many impressions resulting in many clicks...problem is: you can't even remotely check this..but thats the same with any other ad-network.

so, anyway...still waiting for my promotion money! Mail #3 is still unanswered. Spent some of my own money to try this out...we'll see if it works.

I just took these guys up on the 250 offer, and im a little skeptical but its too early to tell.

I went through the 250 in about 20 min, with over 100 thousands impressions and 2500 clicks at 10 cents per click.

So you telling me there are enough iPhone users for my add to be displayed to 100 thousand of them in 20 minutes??? This does not sound right. (I had the adds targeted to just the US market)

My add was a direct link to one of my apps, so if this really works then I should have about 100-200 extra sales tomorrow (im assuming 5-10% of the people clicking on the add would buy it)

Well see tomorrow morning...

jsuff,

I think 100.000 impressions in 20 Minutes is not impossible at all! Keep in mind that allready 10 Million iPhones were sold and add some Million devices for the iPod touch. These all can potentially see your ad!

Of course only a fraction will use an ad-featuring app at this exact point in time and only some of them are living in the US but 100.000 is a very small number compared to 10 Million. :)

I had the same experience with adMob, $250 went thru like nothing and also $100 of my own money melted away like ice in the sun.

What I saw was that the visits on my homepage reflected the actual clicks very well - so this is real! BUT I also had ads that led people directly to the AppStore and the day after I had $250 spent in advertizing my sales went down(!) for 1 day - recovering after the next day but they never climbed higher than the level they were before.

So, what I want to say here is: don't expect any sales thru advertizing. It's not working like that. Advertizing will only make you known and people will then buy your software if they have the need for one such software. In this case they will choose your software over the apps of your competitors just because your name seems familiar.

It's really hard to see the effect with just a $250-Budget thats spent on one day. Ads are a long term means for keeping your buisness going.

well I was not expecting much, but after over 2000 clicks to my direct download link yesterday through admob my sales had zero change, if anything they went slightly down. This is discouraging as you would imagine that on the very low end just a measly 1% of those that actually clicked the add would buy it(that would be about 20 extra units) but even this did not occure. I don't know how you can justify spending over 10 cent a click for advertising one dollar apps. Just does not make economical sense. Admob should offer minimum 1 cent per click bids or something since they know iPhone developers won't be advertising 20-100 dollar products like other software companies do.
