Hi all, am considering getting the 16GB MBA, for my work which uses excel and running statistical models on R quite extensively (loading datasets up to few GBs) and also running javascripts to automate some work on Adobe illustrator.

However my concern is mainly on Illustrator, as there's mixed review where some people have no issue while some cant even open without crashing. Or this has mostly been resolved in the beta native version of illustrator? Will a 16Gb MBA sufficient to handle Ai files around 2gb including editing work and running the Adobe JavaScript?

Much appreciated!

While Illustrator has not been updated for the M1 yet (not even as a beta), it runs fine on a MPB running the M1 with only 8GB RAM. I have been running the beta of other Adobe apps that are in beta for the M1 since I got my machine late last year. Regarding the crashing issues, it does seem to only affect a small subset of users, as I have never encountered any problems with Illustrator on my Mac. I did see a reference to using version 25.0.1 to alleviate some of the issues (current version is 25.2.1), so Adobe is constantly working on getting their programs updated for both Big Sur and Apple Silicon.

The Upside Down
Adobe currently has a beta version of Illustrator for Apple Silicon (version 25.3.1). You should be able to download it from the Creative Cloud app's Beta Apps section.
