In a Mauve Dream
Hi guys. A coworker has just become interested in learning Mac design software for her personal work; obviously, the current CS2 suit costs more than her budget allows... I suggested buying an older version from someone who has upgraded. I met a guy who has InDesign 2.0, GoLive 6, Photoshop 7 and Illustrator 10 install disks. He is willing to sell them, but neither of us has a clue as to what they are worth; he wants to be fair, and I want to help out. Any idea on a fair price for all four or individaully?

Thanks!

I wouldn't pay 1 cent for CS2, their refusal to release free universal binaries is partly why. Since they are freeloading off Apple's rosetta instead of carrying their own weight in making their software run natively on our macs why even spend money to reinforce such behaviour?

Well, he doesn't want to spend money on CS2 buying it from Adobe, but on an older version buying it from someone who doesn't use it any longer. So Adobe isn't getting anything here.

A remark to the OP: If the person you want to buy the older version from, bought an upgrade version of CS2 based on these older versions, he cannot sell you the programs, without losing his legal base to run the upgade version. If he didn't buy the updrade to CS2 or has another license to base it on that is not a problem.

And sorry, but I do not know, what a reasonable price would be.

Thanks for the replies

Persoanlly, I have no interest of acquiring CS2 at the moment... I am doing quite well with CS for personal work. Work, that's another story... the production company I send most of my design work has already made the CS2 switch and I have had compatibility issues.

In terms of price: I think the UPGRADE cost is 500 for standard suite and like 600 including Acrobat... not sure about full version size: maybe 1000?

Anyway... the older versions in op: is 50 dollars individually and 40 if bought as a package seem fair? Let's remember that InDesign 2 was very lame... CS is better.

Thanks again! Any other ideas?

I believe the upgrade to CS2 is $399. Since it is so cheap full versions of older software are fetching big dollars on e-bay.

gosh, being a student is so nice. $379.95 for the whole CS2 suite... even cheaper with the $30 rebate!
