I have just started using Camera+. Principally, I was looking for a level in a camera app. But then I started to read some stuff about getting better pictures from different camera apps. I have done a few experimental shots, and I can see no difference.

So, is Camera+ the best consumer camera app?

And do you think it takes better pictures?

Does anyone have any more camera app insight?

One of the features Camera+ offered was separate focus and exposure points...that was long back when stock camera app could not. Now that Apple has opened up the camera API there are better apps - I use ProCamera 8 and ProCam 3, Pro Shot, Camera+.
In my experience Procmaera 8 provides several options (Low iight, HDR, SloMo, filters), and pictures come out markedly much better than Camera+ especially indoors and outside low light.

Many thanks. Has ProCamera 8 been rebranded as ProCamera? This one?:

And does it have an artificial horizon to get level shots?

Camera+ hasn't been updated since June. Is it still actively supported?

It has been updated not even three months ago... that is still an extremely recent update. There are no signs that it has been discontinued. An app that gets updates all of the time usually means that the developers have released their beta and labelled it stable.
