Advantages of using Safari over Chrome?

Can anyone make a case to use Safari over Chrome? I don't mean little things like tweeting what page you're using, I mean practical stuff such as RAM usage, speed, usability, etc. And do the advantages it has hold enough weight to switch from Chrome to Safari?

If you have more than one apple product iCloud will sync all open tabs, bookmarks, reading list, etc.

Thats the main reason I'm using Safari over Chrome so everything on my iPhone, MBP and iMac is the "same"

You can do the exact same thing with Chrome. Except Chrome works on even more devices.

Why don't you download Chrome and see for yourself? You're the ultimate judge.

Performance wise Chrome is faster at loading pages, but I find there tends to be a tiny bit of lag when scrolling, compared to Safari.

So I'm using Safari again. Safari is a great browser the only downside is lack of updates, Chrome is frequently updated, and ultimately ends up being the faster browser.

Would be nice if Apple released more updates for Safari to keep up with competing browsers..

The main advantage of Safari from my perspective is the iCloud integration, specifically Reading List and Cloud Tabs. I'm sure you can also achieve similar functionality in Chrome as well.

Safari usually feels very fast to me, but I don't have enough experience with Chrome to make a fair comparison.

Both are free (but remember, Google's business is to collect information about you), so compare for yourself.

Just because Apple isn't making money off the information does not mean they aren't recording the same information. Also, with Chrome you can turn off any reporting Chrome does to home base if you want.

Safari has perfect scrolling compared to other browsers, comes preinstalled with OS X and is visually more appealing. In my opinion.

Safari is built-in with OS X, I'd like to think that it's fast even if it isn't .

As mentioned, I too find safari tends to scroll more smoothly, especially on image-heavy websites.

One thing that irritates me about Safari is that you cannot set the default page magnification rate, and new tabs don't "remember" this setting. For example, when I open new safari sites on my 27" imac, everything appears so small. I can use command plus to zoom in, but this does not apply to new tabs I open. Quick-fixes like increasing font size or using extensions don't scale properly either.

Conversely, Chrome remembers this default setting, resulting in less frustration overall.

However, I prefer Safari on my macbook air because the tap-to-zoom function lets me make better use of the small screen.

Also, google docs seem to work better on chrome compared to safari. I have had them fail to zoom properly, lag or even crash on safari.

Currently, I am sticking with safari because it seems to work better on my iphone and ipad (for icloud, reading list and bookmark sync). If apple ever gives us the choice to choose our default apps, I can see myself switching over to chrome completely.

Try both and decide for yourself. Both browsers have their good and bad points. Personally I'm happy with safari and rarely use chrome but both are installed and I use both from time to time.

On my rmbp, scrolling in chrome was choppy. But then I downloaded the Chrome nightly self updating beta (Chrome Canary) and it fixed all the scrolling problems!

I can't make a case for safari over Chrome, chrome is just better in performance.
Safari does have better scrolling though and looks very good. But the big let down about safari that I have is the cpu usage and the fans kicking in all the time.
