Advice Buying a Mac Pro

Hi,
I do video editing with final cut and motion and for other effects many times I use adobe after effects. Some times I even edit videos with 4k resolution. I do not work on maya but just wish to install it on the system in case we may need it some day, but this is not necessary. I need to buy a mac pro and I am not sure which machine to buy. I have very limited budget upto £2000 so i am even considering buying a refurbished/ Secondhand machine. Could anyone advise me which is the better machine a quad core or an 8 core. basically the machine should not slow down when editing on finalcut and after effects and should support videos of 4K resolution. Any advice regarding the hardware is welcome.

I'd say 6-core (3.33Ghz).

Given your tight budget it's considerable faster than the 8-core system. unless you would like to be able to spend serious $$$$ in future times to upgrade your dual-proc configuration which is not advisable, I'd def. would go with hex-core MacPro. It's by far the best alrounder within that price range.

You can consider buying a cheap quad-core (4.1 ?) and buy a new 6-core Cpu off e-bay and do the upgrade yourself. I checked that for Germany last week and here it's even cheaper buying refurb right away, unless you find a really good deal second-hand.

The savings may be down to a few hundred given that they finally fixed refurbished pricing. A hex mac pro is now $2489 in the refurb section with a full warranty. I think they've finally killed the economy in that upgrade, especially as I'd prefer a refurbished unit from Apple to one with unknown history from a random seller.

That is what I tried to express as well. Seems like I failed. I would definitely go with a refurb, that is what I always do myself.
