I was writing to get advice on my new imac 24 (3.06 GHz), which I bought in May of this years. The saga starts out as follows.
The first month everything was going well until the imac did not turn on. It was completely dead. I called apple support and was instructed to take it to my closest certified apple repair shop. After a month in the shop, they determined it was the graphics card causing the problem and replaced it. No problem, right?
Well I take it home and all the fans run full blast on start up. I call apple support again and after running through all their instructions (ie. resetting SMC) they inform me that I must again take it to the shop. After three weeks, the shop tells me the mother board had to be replaced. Ok... problem solved, right?
I get it home again and it works fine for a week, when the hard drive completely fails. You know the story, I take have to take it back to the shop to have the hard drive replaced. Fortunately, I had the foresight to back everything up before it failed.
Now for the advice part. So far the computer has not been used for anything too taxing, email, word processing, and internet surfing. I bought it for some image analysis related to my occupation. Should I request a replacement for this computer? I asked the guy at the shop about this and he said I essentially have a new computer now. I just worry that their could be issues with this particular machine (ie, what else could fail?). I have owned many macs through the years and they have been pretty bomb proof and never had this kind of problem. I would appreciate any feedback.
