Hi everyone!

I am looking to get a new MacBook Pro and was interested in getting other people's opinion.

I've already looked in other places to see what people advices on getting for what I usually do on my computer, but they generally answer from a perspective of the MacBook Pro being used as a primary machine and that is not my case.

I have a desktop on which I work as an editor (mostly Premiere, with some FCP from time to time, and I have Avid if I ever need it) and do some photography work (Lightroom and Photoshop, mostly). My last laptop was an entry-level 2006 MacBook, so anything would be a gain at this point, even an entry-level 12inch MacBook...

I've been looking into getting a 13" inch laptop (portability is pretty important) that I would use most of the time for writing on the go, taking notes etc. But I'd need it to be good enough that I could do some light editing if I'm meeting a client out of my office or on the road, and some light photography work (I do a lot of panorama stitching in Photoshop... but it's very demanding in ressources, so it wouldn't be the end of the world if I had to do that part on my desktop).

Thankfully, I can take advantage of the education discount. I'd like to stay around 1800$ with some wiggle room, though if I could stay even lower than that, it'd be great.

Which one do you guys think would be best, and what upgrade should I prioritize, if any (I don't mind external hard drives too much, so mostly between ram and CPU upgrades)?
The entry-level touchbar model at 1449$ or the mid-tier model at 1699$?

Thanks
