Hello all,
This is my first post on the MacRumors site, so please be nice!
I am in a bit of a sticky position currently. My MBP 15' [late 2011] model has now finally given up. She was brilliant up until 48 hours ago, but as reported by an independent Apple repair shop, my Logic Board has died. Apple replaced this under their extended warranty scheme, but appear to have replaced it with an equally faulty board [replaced 2 years ago]. Alas, my consumer rights under EU Law is expired by four months and I am left with a non-functioning Mac. RIP...
Fear not, as I figure that 7 years is good going for a piece of tech and I am in the market to purchase something new. I have called around various shops, both retail and independent to get as much advice as possible. I have also read a lot on this site today. Various MB and MBP right now seem to have their own array of issues, whether its faulty keyboards, dodgy touch bars [do not like], or abandoned MBA...
I need a Macbook that will provide me with similar levels of reliability, given the cost upfront. I believe that they are well worth the money you pay, but only if longevity is achieved. My general day-to-day needs include photo storage, music, some GoPro editing, movie watching and surfing the web.
My current thinking is a new MBP 13' with 16 GB RAM [for longevity] and entry level Processor. I am thinking of investing in a Home Cloud from WB to store the majority of my data, so again, entry level SSD would suffice.
I would quite like to know some other stranger's opinions on the matter, to see if my personal view fits with the overall understanding of the wider MacRumors community.
I do apologize for the length of my entry. Any feedback is welcome and if this isn't posted in the right area, please do let me know.
Many thanks
Mac the Knife
P.S. Like the name? I thought it was quite clever...
