So, I checked my tracking status today and see “Delivery Option Requested Hold at FedEx Office.” I never requested this, no clue where it is and who did it. They are currently closed. Is this theft waiting to happen???

Update1 : FedEx said the hold was requested via a website and they cant do anything about it.. it’s not me so it’s fraudulent. It will be delivered at a FedEx location 2 hours from me….yes it’s sketchy af.

I opened a case with Apple.

Update2: Apple and Fedex assured me it will be delivered to my house. I'll update tomorrow.

Update3: Well - turns out Apple closed the case because they don’t think it is a concern. I requested to reopen. Fedex says that my request was never processed and rep sent a new request. Meanwhile, I received a “today’s the day” text from Apple. I called Fedex again to let me know where the package is being shipped to and rep confirmed 100% it’s going to my house.

Update4: going with my gut and on my way to the FedEx office

Update5: I knew it. 20mins to the FedEx office, my status was updated to “ready for pickup.” Got there and was in and out in 10 mins. Whew!

Incidentally there was a group (2guys & 1 gal) after me that was trying to pickup using an authorization letter. I left as fast as I could.

So … I’m pissed and furious because there was certainly a breach where someone was able to redirect my package across town.

Here’s my new toy. M2 Max 14 base in space gray.

Wow. I'm very surprised. Still worth a call when they open up. But I don't think you have anything to worry about.

“Delivery Option Requested Hold at FedEx Office.”
Every time I requested a hold on a product or picked it up myself at their office, I had to show proof of who I was.

I'm not saying this isn't sketchy and you shouldn't be worried but they should have controls in place to prevent any tom, dick or harry just walking up and asking for package xyz

I really hope so. I can’t help but think why this location? Is this an easy target?

It's Monday.
Have you called them?

Let us know how this plays out.

So far with the case I opened, both Apple and Fedex assured me it will be delivered to my house. The package is now at a local facility so I expect delivery tomorrow.

Updates added to my main post and hoping this does not happen to anyone.

Sorry for resurrecting this thread, but the same thing happened to me last week. I ordered an iPad, and it got rerouted to a Fedex store 40 minutes away from my house. The Fedex store actually called me to let me know that they had it. Apparently this is a pretty common scam right now. They claimed that someone on Apple's side is rerouting packages and having someone else pick them up. Supposedly people would come in with lists of tracking numbers to pick up, so Fedex required photo ID to collect the package. It was extremely inconvenient, but I'm glad that my daughter's new iPad didn't get stolen. They said that there was no way to change the package back to my house after it was rerouted.

Seems like a major weakness in the shipping chain.

FedEx staff have no idea what the recipient is supposed to look like. They also aren't trained to spot fake IDs. Given how cheap it is to make fake IDs, this is an easy win for criminals.

Here’s some tidbit of info based on my experience:

1) Subscribe to FedEx delivery manager. This is how I found out that my package was requested to be routed to another city. The city will show up in the status and there is also status about “hold requested”

Apple will not send you an email about reroute. It came from FedEx Delivery Manager.

2) Despite my best efforts of both calling Apple and FedEx, there was no way to route it back to my house even if they tried. My case with Apple was closed w/o any explanation. They promised to email me back with status 2x and nothing.

3) You will see tracking information with your address as destination but don’t let that fool you. The actual pick-up address shows up in Fedex tracking when it is ready for pick-up ONLY. I called FedEx to give me the address, that’s how I found out.

4) If delivery date continues to be “Pending” it’s a sign that it is pick-up only. Especially if you see “out for delivery” as status.

5) And yes, agree that FedEx staff has no way of knowing what you look like or if they can spot fake iDs.

This is typical of FedEx in my experience.
I twice followed tracking on items which were held up like this inexplicably.
One of them was reported as being 'delivered to reception' at an address miles away and signed for.
I reported it as being stolen and made a claim and about three weeks later it turned up at my door.
I think their data systems are just all over the place.
