I'm new to photography and am interested in taking a lot of landscape and moving water photos. I've been reading up on neutral density filters and am very interested in getting one (or a few).

One of the filters I've stumbled across is the Fader ND adjustable ND filter (ND2~400) which is manufactured by Light Craft Workshop. The obvious advantage is that I can buy just one filter and not have to worry about carrying around multiple filters. However, their website (http://www.lightcraftworkshop.com/site/page1000.aspx) has terrible spelling which makes me question how well their filters are built. But they do seem to get good reviews from the people who own them.

Does anybody have any experience with this filter or with another filter made by Light Craft Workshop? Here are a few other links related to the filter:

I have no experience with the brand. I do own Singh-Ray's Vari-ND filter and like it - but I will say that lately I've found myself using it less, and using regular ND filters (either singly or in tandem) more.

One drawback to these variable filters is they usually incorporate a pair of polarizers in their design - which means you can't effectively use a polarizer in addition to them. With basic ND filters, you can still use a polarizer.

I like the Lee Gel-Snap ND kit- it's light, easy to use and pretty cheap- plus the holder fits just about any lens- no need to worry about step-up rings, the ND filters are gels 4" square.
