Hi there - just need some compatibility clarification on a major proposed system repair/rebuild.

I have a 2010 cMP (5,1) dual CPU tray (12-core) with 96GB RAM - unfortunately the backplane is faulty.

I have been offered a mid-2012 cMP with a perfect backplane BUT it originally shipped with a single CPU tray (quad-core Xeon).

I'm planning to take the 'newer' 2012 case and swap in the 'old' 2010 dual CPU tray - is there any reason why this won't work?

Advice very much appreciated :)

it will work as long as its not a 4.1 flashed to 5.1 or the fans will run full speed. if its a genuine 2010 cmp it will work!

Thanks mate - this is exactly the type of information i'm looking for.. not that interested in proceeding if an unintended consequence is crazy fan noise. Thank you,
