Hi there,

My dad restores antique cars as a hobby and is looking for a good sub $150 digital camera for archiving his parts. I've checked Cnet, MacWorld, PC Magazine, and PC World but most of their top picks are over this pricepoint.:p Any recommendations on one that would fit the bill?

Thanks

Used digicam. You will not need any bells or whistles for the use case you are proposing.

If all you are doing is taking photos of still items for archive purposes (insurance or what not), then I have a nice old Sony 2MP digicam I'll sell -- for cheap :D

I've tried a few low-end pocket cameras in my day, I've been happiest with the Canons...

I have the A450 I paid $129 for it when it came out...

You can get the latest model, the A470 on sale at Amazon.

Our Flying Club pics of the aircraft I took with that camera right after I got it (I bought it at the Target up the street from the airport to replace a Nikon L3 I was dissappointed with).

The Kodak's are pretty good too...

Look for a used camera. With good light and a tripod the pics will come out very well, clear and sharp. Get a couple of those big work lights from Home Depot light the parts from two different angles or better, just aim the big lights at the ceiling. You should not have to pay more then $100 for a camera to take "record shots" of car parts. His advantage is that he is shooting in a controlled enviroment with enough light and a ridgid camera support any camera can do good work

If you dad's a mechanic and dosen't want to spend money on a tripod just tell im there is a 1/4 inch thread hole in the bottom of the camera, just screw a 1/4 bolt into the camera and clamp the bolt head to a stand.

Agreed about the Kodak-I have the C513 with digital IS and am pretty happy with the images it takes (cost me $60 at Kmart). Movie mode is good for Mac users as recorded videos are in Quicktime format (perfect for iMovie use).
