Hi Guys...

I was looking to get a new camera for taking pictures from a distance.

I want good pics, say if i was at a concert and at a distance.

I want good pics, say if i was at a graduation and outside in the stands.

I want good pics, say if i was at a distance in general.

I have a cannon 870is and a sony t700 and both kinda lose light in the pic at a distance.

i was looking at getting Canon SD 110is

The only thing is....

i didnt wanna get a big camera...

i think they are called SLR cameras...the one with the exchangable lenses.

i was looking for more of a compact camera...or slightly bigger than my canon 870.

Thanks for your suggestion..

TK.

Panasonic Lumix cameras are consistently good across most of their line. I've heard very good things about the Panasonic DMC-FZ28 10MP 20x optical zoom. It's what you want for super long shots or even closeups. It's a tad more expensive than the sx110is, but cheaper and very comparable to the Canon SX10 IS.

Stay away from the sx110, I had it for 3 weeks and liked the menus. I didn't like the fact there was no viewfinder, just that bigass LCD. Not so good if you're out in the bright sun... but in the end I returned it because of its serious problem with noise in normal indoor lighting. ANY shots I tried to take without flash had terrible noise (graininess). I'd had very good Canon cameras on the past, but the unit I had just wasn't up to Canon standards I don't think. I tried compensating by lowering the iso all the way and adjusting exposure, but couldn't beat it.

You'll be shooting in higher ISO - so avoid Panasonic P&S. Very noisy above ISO 400.

Go with at least a Four-Thirds system. Olympus has a compact SLR (E-410) and it's awesome. Panasonic has a Micro Four-Thirds SLR that's very small as well.

I understand there are P&S cameras under development that use the Four-Thirds format as well...
